Sandis Spolitis is a Senior Researcher, Professor, and the Head of RTU Communication Technologies Research Center (RTU ComTech) at the Institute of Telecommunications in Riga Technical University, Riga, Latvia.
In 2015 he defended his Ph.D. thesis focused on high-speed optical access systems. He continued his research direction through the awarded international postdoctoral project NG-FAST which addresses the challenges of developing more spectrally efficient high-speed fiber optical access systems, including the implementation of hybrid analog mm-wave RoF technology.
Sandis has foreign research experience in the Photonic Integration Technology Center (TU/e PITC) at the Eindhoven University of Technology and Department of Photonics Engineering (DTU Fotonik) at the Technical University of Denmark. His research interests include but are not limited to the development and research of WDM fiber optical metro and access networks, radio-over-fiber technologies, 5G and beyond, passive optical network technologies, digital signal processing, and related fields.
Additionally, Sandis is an expert of the Latvian Council of Science, co-author of more than 65 international research papers, 5 Latvian patents, member of SPIE, and IEEE organizations.
