Europe’s largest 5G conference drops the 5G and expands its scope – now known simply as “Techritory”

November 04, 2024

5G Techritory, Europe’s largest cross-sectoral 5G forum, has renamed the platform simply to “Techritory”, announcing it on the first day of the 2024 conference, October 30. This comes as a response to the advancement of next-generation technologies as well as the progressive broadening of scope of the Techritory concept. Techritory has transformed from an event into a think tank, collaborative platform, and community of industry professionals, policymakers, and scientists.

For 7 years, the forum has been known as 5G Techritory, but the platform has long-since expanded its focus to discuss connectivity as a whole, including mobile, terrestrial, satellite, and more. 5G is simply one tool of many in the overarching goal of digital connectivity. Additionally, the platform has become more than an annual event, fostering cross-border, cross-industry collaboration throughout the year.

“Techritory is a 24/7 platform that is continually fostering collaboration and fueling innovation in connectivity. We are a forward-thinking think tank, already working with multiple cross-sectoral initiatives to strengthen European ICT competitiveness and resilience. The new name, Techritory, places a focus on the most important aspects – the new generation technology we harness and the territory we are able to implement it in. Our main message to the world is that you are welcome and invited to join us to implement your most forward-thinking ideas.” – Neils Kalnins, Techritory Director

The new platform will cover topics such as AI use cases, policy, and data center usage, business aspects in the telecommunications and digitalization spaces, 6G, European microchip sovereignty, defence and drone technologies, next-generation smart cities, and others.

Multiple collaborative initiatives are underway. Techritory is a member of the SNS Joint Undertaking, the European public-private partnership fostering 6G research. It is also a signatory in the European Metcitie Project MoU, and serves as a central point of contact for the ICT industry in the Nordics for collaboration with Moldova, Ukraine, and the UK. Additionally, it spearheads multiple initiatives in its home market of Latvia, including the Latvian Quantum Initiative, the Latvian National AI Center for Excellence, the Port of Riga mobility testbed, and multiple memorandums of understanding.

5G Techritory in its original format has achieved significant milestones:

  • Hosted more than 10,000 participants
  • Facilitated over 300 high-impact meetings
  • Generated over 1,600 media publications

The news was announced onstage at the annual flagship event, bringing together over 1,800 leading minds in the ICT space from 40 countries, including policy makers, industry experts, academic representatives, corporations, media, and more.
