Nicola Furness is Network Rail’s Engineering Expert (Europe CCS). Nicola has extensive experience in Control, Command, and Signalling activities, specializing in ERTMS. She leads Network Rail’s input into European forums on ERTMS and is authorized to represent European Infrastructure Managers on ERTMS. Nicola also leads Network Rail’s input into CCS Research and Development(R&D) Programmes such as Shift2Rail and is the Technical Lead for Network Rail’s T190plus R&D program.
Nicola has played a leading role in developing and deploying ERTMS in GB. This has involved supporting current ERTMS deployment schemes and top demonstrators of new ETCS-related developments such as ETCS Hybrid Train Detection, Moving Block, and Automatic Train Operation on Network Rail infrastructure. Nicola is a chartered engineer and a member of the Institution of Engineering Technology and the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers.
