Mr. Norp is a Senior Business Consultant at TNO. He joined TNO (former KPN Research) in 1991 and has been working on network aspects of mobile communications since then. Toon advises operators, government organizations, and others on strategy and architecture related to M2M/IoT, Satcom, 5G, and 6G.
He has been involved in standardizing mobile networks for over 25 years. As Chairman of the 3GPP SA1 service aspects working group, Toon was responsible for the requirements specification phase of 5G. He was also instrumental in getting several new sectors (e.g., public safety, satellite, media, railway, and industry) involved in the 3GPP standardization process.
In 2021, Toon was elected as a Governing Board Member of the 6G SNS Industry Association (6G-IA) and represented the 6G-IA in the SNS Joint Undertaking Governing Board. He holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands.
